5 unusual Father Day Gifts

Buying Dad a gift can be tricky. Especially if he’s the sort of man that has everything. I have loads of options in the shop as you might imagine- funky socks, mugs, Mourne maps, books, Guinness signs, fudge.... loads of stuff. But perhaps you are after something completely different so here are 5 really good ideas.

Perhaps you could buy him a voucher to join one of the sunset kayaking sesssions on Carlingford Lough. It’s only £15 per session and it’s on every Monday and Wednesday over the summer.

Or maybe he’d enjoy learning essential bushcraft or survival skills? They are doing some excellent events up at Finnebrougue woods near Downpatrick. I got a bit of a tour and the site where they run the workshops is awesome. So much to see and learn. While you are there be sure to grab a burger from Fodder! Yummo. https://finnebroguewoods.com/school-of-bushcraft

If he is the musical type perhaps he’d enjoy a bodrhan lesson or two? £20 for 45 mins with Tom McFarland. It was Tom who first showed me how to hold the drum and the stick. There is a bit of a knack to it but with a lesson and two dad will be all over it. He'll at least have a good time trying.

Or take him back in time to Ballyduggan Medieval Settlement where you can experience a little of the viking way of life. You may get the chance to try axe throwing or archery. Weekends only and you have to pay cash as there is no electricity on site so no card payments. There is no cafe or anything there so be sure to pack a picnic.

A voucher for the Carlingford Aventure Centre would also make an amazing gift! They offer an incredible range of activities. Perhaps dad would like to try combat archery? Or their massive zipline! Check out their website for more ideas. You can book online so a great last minute option.

Of course if you prefer a more traditional gift I've got you covered. Good Craic Rostrevor is open 10am - 5pm Sat and 1pm to 5pm Sun. Silent Valley open 11am to 5pm both days.

Whatever you decide I bet dad would love to spend some time with you. Happy Fathers Day for all the dad’s out there. You do an amazing job!
